Following two highly successful events in 2012 and 2013, ART WEEK CAPE TOWN returns in 2014 for an extensive programme of events at galleries, institutions and artists’ studios across the city.
From 26 November to 6 December, ART WEEK CAPE TOWN presents a collective effort by the participants to create a strong focus on Cape Town’s vibrant art scene. Entirely open to the public and free to attend, ART WEEK CAPE TOWN provides an unforgettable experience of contemporary art from the City Bowl to Langa and Gugulethu.
ART WEEK CAPE TOWN is envisaged as a means of reinforcing the existing strengths and visibility of the Cape Town art scene. It aims to create a more robust community of art producers, consumers and appreciators, by acting as a market platform, an information hub and a leisure attraction for locals and tourists alike. Developing new audiences and promoting social cohesion, ART WEEK CAPE TOWN continues to build the sustainability of the cultural economy.
ART WEEK CAPE TOWN is an initiative of the Contemporary Art Development Trust (CADT), a non-profit organisation which aims to develop the audience and market for contemporary art in South Africa, bringing about social upliftment and cohesion.
