From the Press Release: “The European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) active in sub-Saharan Africa are holding a one day conference on Culture and Development in Johannesburg on 12th of April. Achille Mbembe, highly acclaimed philosopher and political scientist, Neville Alexander, well known expert on multilingualism and Anti-Apartheids activist as well as Hora-Roman Patapievici, President of EUNIC heads will give the keynote speaches.On the panel will be apart of the key note speakers Ismael Mahomed, director of the National Arts Festival in Grahamestown — the biggest festival after Edinburgh and Georgio Ficarelli, Head of Culture Section, DG DEVCO at the European CommissionThe panel will be moderated by SAfm’s Karabo Kgoleng.After the panel, smaller groups will discuss topics such as “multilingualism” and “government policies for culture”, “arts and education” and others.The outcomes of the conference will be the basis for the discussions about the policies and planning of EUNIC branches in sub-Saharan Africa in 2011 — 12.
