In making the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition easily accessible, internet entries are now open.

From the Press Release: “Entrants interested in the competition can log on to www.sasolsignatures.co.za to enter the competition. Internet entries will beaccessible until midnight on 19 June 2011.Artists are invited to submit one or twoartworks at one of several venues around the country or via the internet.Physical entries are to be submitted to the collection points on Monday, 11July 2011 and Tuesday, 12 July 2011 between 10h00 and 16h00. Artists who enteronline are not required to enter again at the collection points. They will becontacted if their entries are selected for final approval at a regionalcollection point.Now in its 22ndyear, the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition is aimed at inspiring creativityand innovation amongst emerging young South African artists. It is open to allSouth African artists who are 18 years and older and have not held a soloexhibition, except for academic purposes.Sasol New SignaturesArt Competition is the longest running national art competition in the country.In addition to winning a grand prize of R60 000, this year’s winner will begiven the opportunity to hold a solo exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum nextyear. The runner-up and five merit winners will receive R15 000 andR1 000 respectively.Sasol sponsorship manager,Andriesa Singleton says Sasol has sponsored the prestigious event for the past21 years. “This is an important event on Sasol’s arts calendar and underpinsour commitment to and support of visual arts in thiscountry,” she says.Information sessions were recently heldaround the country where artists had the opportunity to gain insight into thejudging process and receive advice on conceptualisation, display andpresentation of work.Chairman of the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition’sjudging panel, Peter Binsbergen says the Sasol New Signatures Art Competitionis an excellent platform for young up-and-coming artists to showcase their workand to encourage a high standard of work in the arts community. “While winninga prize is obviously a great achievement, just taking part in the event is animportant learning process for young artists,” he says.The selections will be conducted at therespective regional collection points. The regional committees will select atotal of around 100 works for exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum. The finalselection process will culminate with an awards ceremony held on the officialopening of the exhibition on Wednesday, 31 August 2011.The Sasol New Signatures Art Competition’s exhibitionwill be open to public from Wednesday, 31 August 2011 to Sunday, 2 October2011.
