Wits School of Arts / WitsMusic and Wits Theatre present The Mary Rörich Scholarship Concert.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Yunus Ballim and Constitutional Court Judge, Edwin Cameron, along with Classicfeel magazine, host a concert in support of establishing a scholarship in the name of the late Professor of Music, Mary Rörich. The late Mary Rörich was a towering presence on the South African music scene. As a musician, musicologist and broadcaster, she touched, inspired and informed several generations of students and listeners. Her influence was immense and profound, and her passing has left a void in many areas which is difficult to fill. As a tribute to her memory, Wits University presents a commemorative concert featuring a star-studded line-up of the country’s leading musicians: Sibongile Khumalo, Jonathan Crossley, Malcolm Nay, Helen Vosloo, Zanta Hofmeyr, Alma Oosthuizen, Jill Richards, Michèle Corbin, Donato Somma, Maceij Lacny, Francois Möller and Susan Harrop-Allin. All of these artists have donated their time and their talents to this cause. Works will include, amongst others, arias and duets from Tosca, Traviata and Massenet’s Herodiade, instrumental works for piano flute and violin, as well as Faure’s beautiful Fantasie for cello. Proceeds from the concert will launch a scholarship fund in Mary Rörich’s name to enable a talented student to pursue music studies at Wits University. Tickets are R 250:00 – Book early to avoid disappointment and support the education of a future star. Free parking is available in Senate House; the entrance is on Jorissen Street, Braamfontein.
