First Title

DURBAN, Dec. 3, 2010 – Brenton Maart, the energetic curator at Durban’s Kwa-Zulu Natal Society of Arts (KZNSA) Gallery, has resigned his position to pursue doctoral studies at the University of Cape Town. The KZNSA is currently calling on interested parties to submit applications for the vacant post.

Reporting to the CEO, the new curator will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring a full calendar of exhibitions
  • Soliciting and evaluating proposals of suitable works for exhibition, in conjunction with a committee
  • Organizing all aspects of exhibitions
  • Overall management and administration of the galleries and related staff
  • Fundraising
  • Internal and external liaison
  • Developing and managing education and development programmes related to the activities of the KZNSA
  • Marketing and sales

Ideally, suitable applicants will have:

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification
  • Previous experience in a similar environment
  • Sensitivity to and support for socio-cultural transformation
  • A strong network in the visual arts world
  • An ability to work under pressure
  • Strong administrative skills with a natural attention to detail
