Creating moods and atmospheres with cultivating designs

ART AFRICA has had the pleasure of working with the Cape Town-based, multi-award winning wallpaper studio Robin Sprong on more than one occasion. What has always set Robin Sprong apart is the company’s focus on creative collaboration and artistic nurturance brought together with high-end printing facilities and surface print offering.

Launched by Robin Sprong in 2016, it has fast become one of South Africa’s leading bespoke wallpaper companies, cultivating designs that showcase modern innovative aesthetics, brought together by a range of diversely cultured local and international designers. They offer an exclusive service for commercial and residential interior designers and architects. You can choose from one of the many designs available in their art collections which include the likes of South African artist Renee Rossouw, acclaimed artist Vladimir Tretchikoff, old Master Michaelangelo, and Van Gogh.

Clients are also able to provide their own design for printed wallpaper, wall art, and murals, making it a completely bespoke project. The collections are a mix of strong graphics, organic forms, leaves, and flowers foiled by textures of concrete and natural stone. Each atmospheric piece, each meticulous design, is a story of joy and passion.

They work with artists, designers, illustrators, and photographers to produce and source creative designs which are exclusively found in their ranges. Allowing young designers to create bespoke pieces in their own style, instils an environment of creative synergy. Just as the wallpaper tells a room’s backstory, artists are allowed to share their stories too.

Having flourished in the wall covering market, they are now expanding their world-class surface design by offering upholstery, floor coverings, hard finishes, and window blinds. This has been achieved by growing their printing facility and expanding their offering to cater to a more sophisticated market.

They have expanded their global footprint, and would now like to bring it back to African roots, reaching not only the South African market, but Africa as a whole. They wish to nurture and curate African artists that haven’t yet had the opportunity to collaborate and showcase their work on such a level.

As a company, they have been widely recognised by many of the industries leading award initiatives that seek out the best in design. This has helped in their mission to showcase the best work possible. They have built on this through securing licenses with some of the most reputable art collections, acknowledged the world over, such as Vladimir Tretchikoff and the Rijksmuseum, the National Museum of the Netherlands. Another recent and exciting project is ‘The Desert Grace Lodge, Namibia’ – featuring ‘Mosaic Quartz’ wallpaper from the ‘Pappenpop Grafik’ collection, a collaboration with Paula Pappenheim founder and designer of Pappenpop, a design studio in Madrid, Spain. This was commissioned by Fox Browne Creative.
